| Charity Outreach: |
The Bordentown Township Senior Citizens’ group once again has poured their generosity into collecting Easter baskets and filling them with crackers, cookies, candy and toys to give to the residents of an assisted living facility in Burlington County. Each of the baskets was wrapped and will be presented by Angel Sauro, Confidential Aide to the Mayor, and Senior Coordinator for the seniors, on Thursday March 20, 2008. Many of the seniors participated in giving funding towards this outreach project or choose to bring in new baskets. Eve Ziegler, past president of the club, currently the center of our charity outreach, continuously assists me in making each community outreach a successful event. We would like to thank each of our seniors for their continued support and generosity and for sharing and caring about people within our community.
The Bordentown Township’s Seniors Citizens Group banded together on February 12, 2008 to donate 100 ham & cheese sandwiches made by the seniors. The lunchmeat was donated from Pennington Foods from Princeton. The senior club donated 100 bags of potatoes chips and made home made cupcakes, cookies and candies to be donated for our annual Valentine outreach for the soldiers on the base in the Medical Hold Unit. We purchased a large over sized valentine card to have each senior sign a valentine’s message to our soldiers that are at the unit. Our Deputy Mayor Bruce Hill and his wife Kathy along with Chairman of the Veterans Advisory Board, Harry Havens, delivered the items. Eve Ziegler, former Senior President, continues to assist me, (Angel Sauro), in coordinating these outreach programs throughout the year. We wanted to give a warm Valentines Day greeting that shows the soldiers our gratitude for all that they have done for our freedom. We want them to know that Bordentown Township is supporting all of their events and appreciate the sacrifices that they make for each and every one of us.
Bordentown Township’s Senior Citizens Group continues to reach out within Burlington County to bring good cheer to others for the Christmas season of 2007. In December we will as a generous group, collect personal items for the Woman’s Home in Burlington New Jersey. There are sixteen residents whom we have received a wish list from and first names only. We will make Christmas stockings for each resident with their names hand sewn by Eve Ziegler, former President of the Bordentown Township Club. Their social gifts will be delivered mid-December by Angel Sauro, Confidential Aide to the Mayor, and Beverly Radcliff, a member of the club. We have constructed a wall Christmas tree with everyone’s wishes attached. Each of our senior’s chose the name and wish. They purchase the gifts. Donations are made for personal items for their stocking too. Our second Christmas charity outreach consists of collecting new toys from our seniors and donating them to the Women & Children’s shelter in Burlington County. The site itself is at non-disclosed but a “drop off” office arranges for delivery. Our goal is to give 100 gifts. These gifts will be delivered in mid-December. |

The Korean Presbyterian Church invited the Township Committee, the Bordentown Township Senior Citizens, the township Administrator, Police Chief and the Confidential Aide to the Mayor to the annual luncheon. Many of the seniors attended with the final count being 182. The club brought their Motivational Movement Music class and the Terri’s Tappers Class to perform. The church arranged for an extraordinary fan dance, a drum dance and a line movement dance. They did an exceptional job. The food was delicious and their hospitality always exceeds the year before. Their sincere excellence and dedication to the details and their warm welcomes to all of us proved to be a setting for another successful gathering.
