Marriage/Civil Union Licenses

License Requirements:

  1. At least one of the applicants must be a resident of Bordentown Township and both the applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Applicants must show proper identification: i.e. Driver’s License and Birth Certificates -OR- Driver’s License and Passport.
  3. If either applicant has been divorced, you must bring “Final Divorce Decree”, showing Docket Number and Judge’s Signature.
  4. If either applicant is widowed, you must bring a certified copy of former spouse’s death certificate.
  5. When applying, you must have one (1) witness with you.
    Witness must:
    • be at least 18 years of age
    • know both the applicants
    • may be a family member
    • be able to speak and understand English
  6. Applicants must know the following information:
    • Mother’s maiden name
    • Both parents birth places
    • Name & address of person performing marriage
    • Date and place of ceremony
    • Social security numbers (if applicable)
  7. After you apply, there is a 72 hour waiting period before the license can be issued. Once the license is issued to you, the license expires after 30 days.
  8. The license may be used to perform the ceremony anywhere in the State of New Jersey.
  9. You must have two (2) witnesses for the ceremony at least 18 years of age.
  10. Marriage License/Civil Union License applications are taken Monday through Friday, between 10 AM and 4:00 PM. Please call the office to make an appointment.
  11. Marriage License/Civil Union License fee is $28.00 and is payable at time of application (check/cash/money order.)
 

Blood tests are no longer required to obtain a Marriage License/Civil Union License in New Jersey

To Obtain Certified Copies of Marriage / Civil Union, Death and Birth Certificates

Marriage / civil union, death and birth certificates are kept on file in the Registrar’s Office in the Township in which the event takes place. 

If a marriage, death or birth has taken place in Bordentown Township, you may request certified copies from the Registrar’s Office.  The charge for copies is $10.00 per copy. Proper identification is required.
