Please refer to the attached memo regarding West Nile virus (WNV) avian surveillance in 2010. Note: the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services Infectious and Zoonotic Disease Program (NJDHSS IZDP) phone and fax numbers have changed since the previous WNV season. The new phone number is (609) 826-5964 and the new fax number is (609) 826-4874.

Please make every effort to encourage residents to report dead / ill birds to assist with WNV surveillance in New Jersey. Local health departments (LHD) should send birds that are suitable for testing to the NJDHSS Public Health and Environmental Laboratories. It is important that LHDs and other public health stakeholders continue to monitor corvid and raptor morbidity / mortality for WNV surveillance.
