D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education): This is a national program that focuses on the health, social and legal risks as well as the short and long term consequences of drug abuse. We have two trained D.A.R.E. officers in our agency who teach in our elementary schools. D.A.R.E. is presented to the 6th grade students at the Peter Muschal School. Drug awareness information including the identification of drugs and the signs and systems for their use is available to parents.
Fingerprinting: Fingerprinting is offered to residents free of charge to all Township residents or employees/employers within the Township. We offer fingerprinting to all sporting organizations within the community through the Volunteer Review Operation, (VRO), and program. Please contact the Police Department for dates and times.
Child Passenger Seat Safety Program: This safety program is available to parents who have children that must use car seats. This program ensures that the child seat meets the Federal Safety Standards. Officers are trained in the installation and inspection of the seat and offer instruction to the parents in the proper installation to ensure that their children are properly fitted with the child seat being utilized. Loaner seats are available from the Police Department should an inspected seat be determined unsafe.
Project Childsafe: This agency has gunlocks available to Township residents free of charge through this program.
Firearms: This agency has three qualified firearms instructors. Part of their duties is the processing of permits to purchase firearms applications. We also urge any resident that has old firearms/ ammunition that they wish to discard to contact the firearms unit. The officers will make arrangements to assist the residents in the proper disposal of any firearm and or ammunition.
Community Policing Unit: Within this unit is a Juvenile Liaison Officer to the Bordentown Regional School District and the County of Burlington. This officer is available to provide guidance as needed to juveniles and assists the schools with any problems that they may encounter. Also within this unit is the agency’s Bike Patrol Officer. This unit works at community events as sporting events, and the 4th of July festivities and also does regular patrol work.
Burglar Alarm Permits: The Township of Bordentown requires all burglar alarms be properly registered with the Police Department. This agency responds to well over one thousand false alarms per year. This presents a substantial drain on patrol time, manpower, finances, and places a substantial risk to police officers and public safety when responding to alarms. For these reasons, alarm ordinance #1989-2 was adopted.
PROCEDURES FOR OBTAINING ALARM PERMITS - Alarm permit applications and copy of the ordinance can be obtained at the Police Department anytime. There is a one time fee of $10.00 per residential property or business property. It is the property owners responsibility to keep up to date records with the police department regarding the alarm company and to ensure compliance to this ordinance.
