Senior Halloween Party - Photo Album

The Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Group had their annual Halloween Party. We had lions, cats, ladybugs, mummies, a fairy or two and Woody attended too. These creative costumes were well worn by the senior’s grandchildren. We began our spooky festivities with a children parade, and then shared some goulash food. The entertainer was Mark Wurst who dazzled us with his magic tricks. He gave us a full hour of fun and humor mixed with the theme of Halloween fun. We had a wonderful evening of laughs and thrills.

Senior Picnic
August 16, 2008, 12:00pm
German American Club

The Bordentown Township's Senior Citizens held their annual picnic at the German American Club picnic grounds on August 16, 2008. The menu featured picnic type foods and plenty of it including dessert. It was fun watching the seniors enjoy playing horseshoes, telling jokes and playing bingo. The real crowd pleaser was the Silent Auction that was held for the purpose of fundraising for the club. We had 25 themed baskets filled with goodies from the "movie basket" to the "birthday basket" to the "pasta" or "baking" basket plus we had several "mystery boxes". The raffle winners really loved this new idea and prizes. We made a lot of funds for the club. We had a very well attended crowd and can not wait until next year! The German American Club treated us well and served us with great food and pleasant conversation.

The Seniors Twist Again

On June 21st the Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Group had the walls adorned with 45 records and a menu that resembled the 50’s. Many attended this event dressed for the part in their penny loafers, saddle shoes, Bobbie socks, poodle skirts, hair slicked back and jeans rolled up with Lucky Stripes in their sleeve cuff. Our DJ was Black Die DJ’s who brought us to the journey of the 1950’s. They were singing and dancing the night away.

Bordentown Township Senior Citizen’s Club Generously Donate to Peter Muschal School for the 5th Year in a Row

The Bordentown Township’s Senior Citizens Group once again met their goal of over 25 filled book bags that were donated the first week of September to the Peter Muschal School Children that may need a little help with retaining school supplies for children who need our assistance. The club begins collecting supplies one that is selected for each month. In January it is loose leaf note book paper and it ends in August with the actual Book bags. We assemble the book bags and fill them with everything from erasers to scissors, crayons to folders. Each bag gets a small stuffed animal as well. The seniors love to help out within the community. Each year the Senior Coordinator, Angel Sauro, chooses charity outreach projects that the club agrees are worthy causes. We have been helping our community for nine years. Nine years ago we began with 3 projects and today we are handling about 9 sometimes we are moved to do more. We are all about helping one another. Giving with open hearts and without hesitation.

Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Give To Poor During Off Seasons

The Bordentown Township Senior Citizens group collected and donated canned goods and non-perishable items to the Catholic Charities organization for the poor. During the summer months the shelves at the pantry for the poor are empty. We all know that hunger does not take the summer break. We collected three large boxes full of food and it was brought to the drop-off in Delanco New Jersey. Good job to our entire senior group who continue to think of others and give so unselfishly.

Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Group Donate to Disabled Veterans

The month of May was designated as giving to Veterans for a Memorial Day outreach. Many of our seniors crocheted and knitted lap robes, prayer shawls and mini blankets for two facilities in Burlington County. The one facility was Roebling Arms and their other facility which is the same extension of the Roebling one which is in Mt. Holly New Jersey. My seniors provided home made joke books that were given as gifts as well. Some books had comic strips cartoons and others were funny sayings or comments that they found in their quest to make these books. Some had inspirational topics or sayings. I am so happy to report that the residents really enjoyed these items. They were distributed during a cook-out event during the last week of May. The Social Service Coordinator, Lisa Sirisky, was both welcoming and helpful. The residents really found some comfort and joy out of our gifts. A great big thank you goes out to our Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Club for giving so generously their time and talent for our annual Memorial Day outreach!

Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Group Reaches out Within the Community to the Residents of a Burlington County Assisted Living Home in Florence

The Bordentown Township Senior Citizens’ group once again has poured their generosity into collecting Easter baskets and filling them with crackers, cookies, candy and toys to give to the residents of an assisted living facility in Burlington County. Each of the baskets was wrapped and will be presented by Angel Sauro, Confidential Aide to the Mayor, and Senior Coordinator for the seniors, on Thursday March 20, 2008. Many of the seniors participated in giving funding towards this outreach project or choose to bring in new baskets. Eve Ziegler, past president of the club, currently the center of our charity outreach, continuously assists me in making each community outreach a successful event. We would like to thank each of our seniors for their continued support and generosity and for sharing and caring about people within our community.

Bordentown Township’s Senior Citizens Group Reach Out to the Fort Dix Medical Hold Unit

The Bordentown Township’s Seniors Citizens Group banded together on February 12, 2008 to donate 100 ham & cheese sandwiches made by the seniors. The lunchmeat was donated from Pennington Foods from Princeton. The senior club donated 100 bags of potatoes chips and made home made cupcakes, cookies and candies to be donated for our annual Valentine outreach for the soldiers on the base in the Medical Hold Unit. We purchased a large over sized valentine card to have each senior sign a valentine’s message to our soldiers that are at the unit. Our Deputy Mayor Bruce Hill and his wife Kathy along with Chairman of the Veterans Advisory Board, Harry Havens, delivered the items. Eve Ziegler, former Senior President, continues to assist me, (Angel Sauro), in coordinating these outreach programs throughout the year. We wanted to give a warm Valentines Day greeting that shows the soldiers our gratitude for all that they have done for our freedom. We want them to know that Bordentown Township is supporting all of their events and appreciate the sacrifices that they make for each and every one of us.
