2009 Seniors Charity Outreach
Bordentown Township Partners with “Toys for Tots” Organized by the Marines
The Bordentown Township Senior Citizens’ Group and the Veterans Advisory Committee partnered with the Marine Trenton Detachment to collect toys from area Veteran Organizations and the Bordentown Regional High School and their own organizations. It was an awesome outreach. They filled barrels left for the outreach. Two military personnel pick up the toys on December 22 at the Senior Community Center. They were very helpful and loaded up all the toys efficiently. The outreach breakfast was cancelled due to the snow storm.
We would like to thank everyone in our community that supported this very worthy cause for the children who are less fortunate than the rest of us.

CHRISTMAS CHEER SHARED BETWEEN OUR BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP SENIOR’S AND THE CLARE ESTATE RESIDENTS
The Bordentown Township Senior Citizen’s Group decided to once again donate gifts to the residents at The Clare Estate in Bordentown City. We decorated mugs and filled them with candy for bingo prizes for the residents of the home. The President Eve Ziegler and Angel Sauro delivered the mugs to the Director of Activities, Lee Shah, for distribution on December 4th, 2009. The seniors love giving to the community. They have supported St. Mary’s pantry all year long this year too.

Bordentown Township’s Senior Citizens Group Promotes
Generosity within the Township
Photo Album
The Bordentown Township Senior Citizen’s Group donated thirty filled school book bags to the Peter Muschal School on September 9, 2009. The senior’s club officer, Seargent of Arms, Mae Hamilton, assisted Angel Sauro in bringing the book bags that were filled with all sorts of school supplies to the Peter Muschal School.
We were greeted warmly by Principal Ed Chmiel and Assisted Principal Coletta Black. They were very grateful to receive the school book bags. They will go to the children that have a need of one this year.
They have over 600 students so we realize this is just a small gift of generosity. Many children go without the necessities needed for school in this tired economy.
Our hope is to ease that pain and the financial depletion of the parents and children that are in need with the gift that we shared. We will strive to continue to give next year and to move our goal to higher ground for the benefit of these students.
Our seniors are a truly generous generation that believes in giving back within our community, to share easily and not to waver when asked to serve this township. |
Bordentown Township’s Senior Citizens Group Gives to the Poor
The Bordentown Township’s Senior Citizens Group collected boxes of canned goods for the poor throughout the summer months. The donated non-perishable items were given to St. Mary’s pantry serves people in Burlington County who come to them seeking to feed their families or themselves. Our seniors recognize that there are a vast amount of people that are hungry all year long. |
Bordentown Seniors' Summer Outreach
The Bordentown Township Senior Citizen’s Group purchased $200.00 worth of international phone cards that the soldier’s in Iraq can use to call home to their families. The cards were presented to Marie Durling, Director of family programs for the New Jersey National Guard on Monday August 3rd 2009 at the Senior Citizen’s meeting. This was an outreach that the seniors wanted to complete this year to show their support and respect to the men and women in the Armed Forces serving to preserve our freedom.

Bordentown Township’s Annual Memorial Day Outreach to
Veterans in Our State
Photo Album
The Bordentown Township Senior Citizen’s Group happily created many lap robes, shawls, joke books and inspirational scrapbooks depicting photographs taken by Russ Mich one of our very own seniors at the club. The crochet class was responsible for a good part of the lap robe donation. The joke books were a collaborated effort by club members. The scrapbook was completed by several of our seniors who met for many craft classes to complete our project. The seniors who were in fact responsible for the scrapbooks were Beverly Radcliff, Carol Panella, Eve Ziegler, President, Cat Stark, Vice President, Angel Sauro, Senior Center Coordinator, Gloria Spundarelli, Mary Anne Rosie, Charlotte Bulleck, Mae Hamilton, and Gladys Jenssen. There shawls were hand sewed exclusively by the Senior President, Eve Ziegler. The donation will be taken by Michael Miragliuolo, Burlington County Veterans Service Officer, to the Vineland Veterans Home on our behalf on May 26, 2009. We appreciate his service in this donation matter. The Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Group is happy to recognize our servicemen and women for the years of serving our country and keeping us safe. It is our privilege to give them something back. Happy Memorial Day! |
Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Give to the
Community at Easter Time
The Bordentown Township Senior Citizen’s Club generously donated forty Easter Baskets to two facilities on April 7, 2009. The Meals on Wheels received fifteen filled Easter baskets for their participants in the program that are home bound. Each person in living in Bordentown Township or Burlington County will receive one basket with their Easter dinner. The Genesis Home is located in Cinnaminson New Jersey and houses many residents. The facility is both a rehabilitation unit and a nursing home care unit. They received a total of twenty five baskets for their facility to give out during a “basket bingo” by the Easter Bunny. Our seniors continue to bring joy and kindness throughout this county giving unselfishly and whole heartedly to others that are less fortunate. Angel Sauro, Senior Coordinator personally delivered the baskets.

The Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Group generously made 150 sandwiches, included 200 bags of chips, home made cookies, candy and cakes for the Warrior Transition Unit on the base in Fort Dix. The Senior Citizen Club’s President was in attendance to present as well as Harry Havens, Ex-P.O.W and Chairman of the Veterans Advisory Commission, Beverly Radcliff, club member, Angel Sauro, Bruce Hill, Committeeman and his wife Kathy. I would like to thank the following seniors that assisted in assembling our donations: Eve Ziegler, Harry Havens, Gladys and Rudy Jenssen, Catherine Stark, Vice President, Charlotte Bulleck, Mae Hamilton, Beverly Radcliff, Gloria Spundarelli, Angel Sauro, Rita Weaver. I would like to extend a warm thank you to all our bakers in the club who supported this effort. We were able to really mingle with the soldiers. They were smiling and grateful. It is good to know we as a group made a difference. We presented to them a large card with everyone’s signature from the club. The Bordentown Regional High School Art Club created a scrapbook of well wishes for the soldiers as a collaborated effort. The club provided the supplies. |
