The duties of Bordentown Township’s Animal Control agents are varied and purposeful in their intent. The safety of residents, domestic pets and wild life are the most important goal our officer’s work to maintain.

Bordentown Township Animal Control services not only Bordentown Township but also Florence, Mansfield and Chesterfield under Shared Service Agreements.

Responsibilities of Bordentown Township’s Animal control officers include, but are not limited to:

  • Preventing the spread of rabies.

  • Educating the public about proper care of domestic pets and wild life.

  • Enforcing the laws governing domestic pets and wild life.

  • Enforcing local leash laws governing canine companions.

  • Trapping and transporting feral cats, feral dogs and lost pets to the local shelter or, if needed, to a local veterinary hospital. Traps set by residents are the responsibility of the resident. Based on availability, traps may be available from Animal Control. An agreement would need to be signed.

  • Removing and disposing deceased animals, with the exception of deer, from local roads and residences.

  • Responding to resident complaints. Emergency issues can be handled 24 hours a day, seven days a week; however, most will be handled by priority.

  • Coordinating feral cat TRN program.

  • Coordinating nuisance feral cat trapping.
