Your Township Government UpdateThe Township Committee adopted an ordinance creating specific provisions regarding the removal and cutting of trees to avoid indiscriminate and excessive destruction. At the Township Committee meeting taking place on Monday, September 12, public hearings will be held on two prospective ordinances. The first ordinance would permit a restricted parking zone in front of a resident’s home to accommodate the resident’s disability and the second is to extend police authority to a privately owned industrial complex. A non-binding referendum question will be on the November ballot. The question will poll Bordentown Township residents regarding a 2-cent tax (per $100 of assessed value) dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of open space and recreation land. If assessed, the average homeowner would pay approximately $50 per year ($4 per month) toward the earmarked funds. Township officials continue to work with our State agencies (specifically the New Jersey Department of Transportation) about the schedule for traffic control improvements on Route 130 and Route 206. The Township also participated in the New Jersey State Division of Planning process regarding the new State guidelines on industrial and warehouse growth management. A public meeting will be planned for the near future on this topic. The Township Committee is slightly altering the meeting format to extend public participation and to track township business updates. These changes will be implemented beginning with the September 12 meeting. The Township is updating its municipal code. This large undertaking will bring many current code provisions up to date to reflect our current processes and environment. The code numbering will also be reorganized. It is hoped that the new municipal code will be in place by late Spring 2023. The link to the current code is located on our website. As new ordinances are adopted, they can be found under new laws. Plans are underway for the new Municipal Complex. Earlier this year, the Township Committee determined that the current land at 1 Municipal Drive conveniently situated between Route 130 and Route 206 will be used. The Township’s goal is to create a “municipal complex” consisting of buildings for municipal operations and parking as well as public amenities. The current vision of the complex consists of three buildings and a possible rerouting of Municipal Drive to slow traffic and to access Farnsworth Avenue opposite the CVS/McDonalds driveway. Two new buildings are envisioned: the first building to house the Township’s Police Department and Municipal Court and the second building for the other municipal administrative functions. The complex’s third building is to be the existing Senior Community Center located at 3 Municipal Drive. Currently the Township is seeking a Construction Manager to manage the process and oversee construction. Congratulations to Rachel Fisher, our tax clerk, for passing her state exam to become a Certified Tax Collector. See Rachel to pay your third quarter taxes before Friday, September 16 to avoid interest charges. |
Your Township Community Development UpdateThe Township Planning Board conducted a virtual meeting on August 11, where only administrative items were acted upon as the application for a natural gas fueling station to be located at 1092 US Highway 206 was postponed. No applications were heard at this meeting. The next scheduled meeting of the Planning Board will be Thursday, September 8, at 7 PM. The Planning Board will hear an amended preliminary and final site plan application for the development of the “Team Campus Phase II” site at this meeting. Zoom log-in credentials can be found at the top of the agenda found on our website here. News on local businesses:
The connector road linking Dunns Mill Road with Rising Sun Road is nearing completion. This will significantly improve traffic circulation on Township roads. Visit our parks! The Township has five major parks for our residents' enjoyment. These parks provide a wide array of recreational activities to enjoy.
