2025 Hometown Hero

The Bordentown Township Veterans Advisory Committee is proud to recognize Steven L. Martin as our 2025 Hometown Hero — a man whose life has been defined by service, dedication, and the quiet strength of teaching others.

A Vietnam veteran and retired serviceman with 23 years of active duty, Mr. Martin earned more than thirty awards and decorations throughout his military career. After returning home, he continued serving others in new ways — sharing his knowledge of martial arts with everyone from the FBI and military police to students, medical professionals, and local community members.

For 26 years, Mr. Martin also served as an educator in the Bordentown Regional School District, where he shaped young minds with the same patience and integrity that guided his time in uniform. His passion for learning and mentorship earned him the New Jersey Governor’s Teacher of the Year Award and recognition as Bordentown’s Man of the Year in 1998.

With over 70 years dedicated to traditional Chinese martial arts, and multiple inductions into national and world Halls of Fame, Mr. Martin’s legacy reaches far beyond the classroom or the dojo.
