Putting Dr. King's Words Into Action. Mayor Aneka Miller volunteers with Habitat for Humanity.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Mayor Aneka Miller joined community members for a day of hands-on service at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Maple Shade.

The service project marked the kickoff of the 2026 Serve with Senator Singleton initiatives and reflected Dr. King’s belief that “anyone can be great, because anyone can serve.” More than three dozen volunteers participated in the effort, working together to remove carpeting, build furniture, organize the warehouse, and complete other tasks that support the ReStore’s operations.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Volunteer Day

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore plays a critical role in generating revenue that helps fund affordable homeownership opportunities throughout the region. Volunteer support during service days like this helps ensure the organization can continue its mission.

Mayor Miller and fellow volunteers were hosted by Habitat for Humanity South Central New Jersey, with participation from community leaders including Brigadier General Yvonne L. Mays.

The MLK Day of Service serves as a reminder that honoring Dr. King’s legacy goes beyond words — it is reflected through action, service, and a shared commitment to helping others.
