Understanding The 2026 Budget: A Guide For Residents

Let’s be honest—budget talk can feel like a lot.

Between charts, numbers, and terms that don’t exactly come up in everyday conversation, it’s easy to tune out. And that’s completely fair.

But at its core, the municipal budget is about something much more simple: your community. It’s the Township’s plan for how we fund the services that keep Bordentown safe, clean, and running smoothly every day.

That includes everything from public safety and public works to parks, infrastructure, and day-to-day operations that residents rely on.

Breaking It Down—Without the Jargon

We created this guide to make the budget easier to understand—without the complicated language or guesswork.

Inside, you’ll find a clear look at:

  • Where the Township’s funding comes from

  • How those funds are allocated

  • What costs we can control—and what we can’t

Our goal is simple: to provide transparency in a way that actually makes sense.

A Note on Schools

It’s important to know that the Township does not manage the school budget. That process is handled separately by the Bordentown Regional School District.

That said, we maintain a strong working relationship and regularly collaborate to problem-solve and support initiatives that benefit the entire community.

Want to Dive Deeper?

For those who want a more detailed look (we respect it), the full budget report is always available on the Township Committee webpage.

We encourage residents to take a few minutes to review the guide, explore the numbers, and better understand how your local government plans for the year ahead.

And as always—if you have questions, we’re here. Contact Mike Theokas at m.theokas@bordentowntownship.org.
