Bordentown Township Police Director Frank Lombardo Ed.D. has been on the job one week -- and if this first week is any indication, residents have every reason to feel good about what’s ahead.
He started where good leaders start: with gratitude.
“I want to thank the Township Committee, Administrator, command staff, as well as our officers and staff for welcoming me as they have,” Lombardo said.
From there, he got to work. Lombardo and command staff are launching a comprehensive assessment of the police department -- one that will take a close, honest look at how the department operates across the board. The assessment will cover:
• Policies and procedures
• Leadership and supervision
• Training and equipment
• The vehicle fleet plan
• Use of force and police pursuits
• Recruiting and retention
• Diversity and inclusion
• Community engagement and the police-citizen interface
• Preventing, deterring, and investigating crime
• Juvenile interactions
• Website and social media
• Future staffing needs
And it won’t just be data. Lombardo is committing to individual conversations with the officers and staff on the front lines every day. The result will be a three-year strategic plan built on a real understanding of both the department and the people it serves.
“In just my first week, I can see the dedication to duty not only from our police officers, but from the entire Bordentown Township team,” he said. “I look forward to being an integral member of that team.”
Lombardo’s leadership philosophy centers on three principles he’ll be bringing directly to his officers in the coming weeks: take care of the community, take care of the police department, and take care of each other.
And that community commitment extends to residents too. Lombardo is personally inviting anyone who wants to share their thoughts or ideas to reach out directly.

That’s the kind of accessibility that builds trust -- and it’s a strong signal of the partnership Director Lombardo is already working to create.
