Bordentown Township recently held its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony, bringing together local veterans, community leaders and Township staff to respectfully retire worn and damaged American flags collected throughout the year.
Under the United States Flag Code, an American flag that is no longer in suitable condition for display should be retired in a dignified manner. The ceremony provides an opportunity for the Township to carry out that tradition while recognizing the significance of the flag and the service and sacrifice it represents.

Mayor Aneka Miller attended the ceremony alongside members of the Bordentown Township Veterans Advisory Committee, led by Chairman Bryan Branson. Members of Fire District #2 were also on hand to assist with the ceremony and ensure the flags were retired safely and respectfully, with support from the Township’s Public Works team.

Township thanks everyone who helped make this year’s ceremony possible and who continues to help preserve this meaningful tradition in our community.
Residents are also reminded that worn or damaged American flags can be dropped off at Bordentown Township Public Works throughout the year. Flags collected will be properly retired during next September’s Flag Retirement Ceremony.
